January 15, 2016 – Staining is rewarding

An aspect of my business that I find very rewarding is staining.

It has a special complexity, in that it’s not just visual but it involves the use of other senses to fully reveal the beauty within the wood (in this case, Eastern Maple).

1. Sight – working progressively with different grits of sandpaper to bring out the finer details in the grain
2. Sound -listening to the wood resisting the sandpaper
3. Feel – both the texture of the wood and the thickness of the lacquer is important in ensuring beauty and long-term protection of the wood
